The Mathews Maritime Heritage Trail is a partnership project initiated in January 2009 to preserve the valued coastal landscape, and tell the colorful history of Mathews County’s nautical heritage. An interactive map interface was developed for the East River in Mathews to provide an opportunity for individuals on the water to learn about the historic maritime sites that can be viewed while navigating the river.
